How many times have you seen Maynard perform? Which band do you think puts on a better show? Tell us a little about your favorite experience.

Not even once..... I have been promised though that when TOOL or APC tour Europe, I will go see them..... So here's hoping and wishing. I've heard that he is amazing live, and there's no other experience like it....

Yes it is an amazing experience. Both the bands put on a seamless performance. It is really hard to explain, very ethereal. It is a total show, the lights and Maynard's performance really resonate and amplify the music. Personally, I find Tool to be a better show because Maynard gets so into the music (not that APC isn't fabulous too). My absolute favorite song to watch live is Lateralus. The cd version isn't even one of my top 5 songs, but to watch Maynard sing it is mesmerizing! At the end of the song (the whole spiral out part) Maynard just goes nuts dancing and gyrating. The last show I saw he had a spinning, lighted stage and was doing yoga poses during part of this song. Good times!!
Anyways, I've seen Tool 3 times and APC twice. I hope to see Tool twice on this next tour, because let's face it they won't tour forever. In short, you need to go Jo!!

I have seen A Perfect Circle four times and TOOL twice, and all six performances were phenomenal. I actually cried while driving home from my third APC concert; it's probably a good thing that I was alone in the car. Going to any concert is usually a physically and emotionally draining experience for me, but I always have a great time.
I think TOOL puts on a slightly better show than APC, possibly because they have been playing together for a much longer time. Danny Carey is my favorite drummer, and his energy adds a lot to the show. I agree with what alienation said about Maynard's dancing at the end of Lateralus; that alone is worth the ticket price!

Yeah I think Danny is AMAZING. Most talented drummer I know of. I mean, just check out his kit!!!!

I can't say which show (Tool or APC) would be better....they are just different.
Tool is more of an "experience", a "show". APC, although an experience, is more like seeing a "band", a "concert".
I don't know if that makes any sense, I can't really explain it.
They are different but equally amazing.
I've seen APC 4 times, Tool 2 times.

I have seen APC twice. Both times were spectacular. I have not had the pleasure of seeing Tool yet, but I guarantee I will be there this year when they go out. I am so pysched about this new cd.

I've seen Tool three times and APC three times. I think I prefer Tool live over APC live although both bands deliver amazing performances. One reason for this is that at a Tool show I can actually get to *see*Maynard on stage. I don't know - it just seemed that on the 13th Step tour Maynard was completely in the dark for most of the show. We were lucky to get fleeting glimpses of him in the shadows. I understand what he's trying to do but I must confess I got a little frustrated not being able to see him. The second reason is that I enjoy seeing the other members of Tool play their instruments over APC. I think maybe because the music is more complex, Danny is an awesome drummer and well to be honest Adam is a complete babe. I also enjoy Tool's stage set visuals more than APC. On the plus side for APC though is the fact that you get to hear Maynard sing a lot more melodically and to hear some of the notes he hits live is just so amazing. Hhmmm...maybe it's a draw.

well i'll make it really short and sweet...i love maynard and everything he does...seen Tool 3 times and A Perfect Circle 3 Times....i could go on about the details and everyhing and i assure you it would take all day to talk about the similarities/differences between APC and TOOL live....but here's my opinion:
Tool: Nothing like them live, i live to see them live. It's like a religious experience, not that i know what one is like but it has to be close to one
Old APC LIVE: Love em...I love the orignal line up...I love Paz...they were sooooooo good live you couldnt guess what they were gonna belt out next
New APC Live: Okay....Too predictable....same set list every single night....u could guess what they were gonna play next....plus i think they are BORING live...i hate saying it cuz i love maynard so muh
Anyways...recently i think APC has been draining the life out of TOOL....i dunno just a theory....i just saw a concert i got off ebay from 94..Maynard is sooo much better in TOOL than APC....but then can u even compare the two?

A couple things: APC boring?? Well, you are entitled to you opinion, but personally I don't understand this. I saw APC several times and was not for a minute bored. Compeltely mesmerized and in awe each time. But...that's my opinion. How do you see APC as being a"drain" on Tool? Is it because you think Maynard is spending too much time with APC? (I'm going to assume it is since that is what a lot of people think, otherwise tell me differently) I don't think Maynard would do anything he doesn't want to do. I don't think he would do anything that he doesn't believe in. Whatever he is doing, if it makes him happy, if it fullfills him......then that's all that should matter. And no...you cannot compare Tool and APC. People try all the time, but they are two separate entities. I think simply because they have Maynard as the one thing in common is why people try and compare. But to me, it seems as though each is a totally different artistic outlet for Maynard. I think it is unfair to him and his art that he brings each one to compare them.

I do see your point moneyisevil. I also think Maynard is not as animated in APC as he is in Tool. (In fact, I even remember feeling slightly disappointed at the last APC show I went to )

But I think that is a lot of the point with Maynard and APC. He doesn't want the focus on him, he wants it on the music.
IMO, he doesn't have to be animated to make it a great concert. Besides he did interract with the crowd often. I don't think he has to be "seen" to be "heard".
The music and his voice is enough. Those two alone kept me in complete awe through every concert I went to. That and watching the rest of the guys play.
I really think that most Tool fans may be a little disappointed at APC concerts because they expect a huge theatrical show like Tool concerts.
They both have their good points. The "show" that is a Tool concert is absolutely amazing. But at the same time, you don't need the "show" to completely enjoy a concert and be taken away simply by the music.

I saw both Tool and APC only once, exactly the number of times both bands came here Tool came as part of Ozzfest, and their show was simply... astonishing. Even people who were there to see Slayer or Drowning Pool, and didn't even know anything about Tool, were mesmerized at their performance. It was just amazing, and it was magical to hear Aenema under a complete rain shower, learn to swim everyone! I still remember that maynard said that was their favorite place to play from then on ;D I saw APC in january last year, and it was good, could have been better as the concert was really really short Anyway, I hope Tool will come to their "favorite place" when they start touring again.

I saw Tool twice and APC also twice, all in Paris. Each show was wonderful, but the first time I saw APC in 2000 was special, because the place was very small and I was just in front of him, let's say... 2 meters maximum !
