That song is amazing. (Well, as all APC songs are.)
But yes, Gravity is exceptional.
Sometime you do just have to choose to live. To overcome.

This song kindof showcases Maynard's attitudes imo. Some people may say that Tool and APC are negative, but I always use The Patient and Gravity to try to prove that isn't so. Dark does not necessarily equal negative, right?

I like philosophy and am always looking for 'enlightening' things to read, so I may check this out. Hmmmm.... I think I may start a philosophy thread.

have u ever read Myth of the cave by plato (from the republic) to paraphrase from darkness comes light Why does this come to mind when I read from darkness comes light? Lucifer, the Devil, The Prince of Darkness. -> Lucifer meaning "the bringer of light"Eh, don't freak out people, just playing a little Devil's Advocate. ;D

Ive come to understand that darkness is usally misunderstood. Alot of people have many diffrent view on "darkness" (take religious people for example) so its hard to classify what is dark and light.

IMO we all have a little darkness inside. A little bit of animal instinct, raw power if you will. It's necessary for everyone to have. It's what seperates the weak from the strong. When all the lights go out and things look grim, sometimes all we have left is the darkness. It's the secret weapon we hold inside that makes us push further and force our abilities to new lengths. The darkness is the source of power that keeps us clawing at the walls until we find the light switch. The only problem is some people don't know how to turn the light back on. So their darkness is misconscrewed as evil or bad intention. But I believe it's necessary to have a little negativity in you. It helps keep a balance. The yin and the yang so to speak. I'm far from a philosophy (sp?) teacher or anything, but my feeling is without bad their would be no good. And not all bads are really bad. And not all goods are really good for that matter.

i agree 100% with everything you said, voiceofgod.
I especially liked this:
"The darkness is the source of power that keeps us clawing at the walls until we find the light switch.
I never thought about it before, but it's so true. When we are in the darkness, we do have nothing but the dark to get us through. It is the force that makes us strive for the light.

dervish, it is one of the most uplifting songs I've heard in a long time. You have hit the nail on the head voiceofgod. Equilibriums are important in our daily lives, without balance we would either have too much good (light) or bad (dark).... sometimes I wonder whether or not the bad outweighs the good , and I'd like to see more good being done in the world. How can we appreciate the beauty of the day if there weren't night. It pains me to see people being hurt and dying, although it's a process of living, that everyone has to experience, whether it be in little or large doses. Most of the people I know and have grown to love and cherish over the years, have had painful moments, including myself, and the way I see it is we either wither away and let the pain consume you, or we use it to make us stronger for the next encounter we have, or even to help others. I believe you meet everyone in your life for a reason. I'm glad I'm apart of this family, you all are great. You've all given me something to look forward to again.... thank you. ;D

It pains me to see people being hurt and dying, although it's a process of living, that everyone has to experience, whether it be in little or large doses. I don't look at it in terms of living or dying. Just thing of life as a video game. Once you beat a level you progress to the next stage. We never really die and we're never really born. Think of it as ever being. We have always been here and we will always stick around. We just take different forms. Flesh rots, but the soul is everlasting. Most people fear death because they don't realize that we have been here before and died many times. If you can conquer the realization that death is just a door to another room, then you can live happily without fear. I agree, I wish the world had more good people in it. Or more people willing to give good more of a chance. It's easy to walk down the dark path, but it's hard to maintain good and keep a smile on. Like you said, it's all about balance. No matter how many times you've frown, you have to learn to smile just as much. To me, "life" (our time in human form) is just a series of moments that have happened before. All one needs to do is make a choice at that moment. You either choose to make it better or you choose to let it get worse. Either way, don't regret the choice you made because I promise you, you'll make it many more times in many more "lives". I hope this board and this family can help one another. We all have each other for support and that's the best gift Maynard could ever give us.
