Hello everyone, As you all know MJK always tends to make his tool songs mysterious and they require alot of thought. I thought it might be interesting if theres a tool song you have a view on or would like to have a view on if you could post it up. Its always been a favorite then of mine to hear what songs speak out to diffrent people.... ill start The song Stinkfist: To me watching the music video says it all. If you have seen the video you see the clay people, one of them is watching T.V , another seems to be walking around aimlessly, etc. In the lyrics MJK is singing "something has to change , undeiable delema, bordems not a burden anyone should bear" wich to me indicates a state of no true feeling, or nothing to gain more with. Later during the song you see the people reacting more to there surroundings, one starts eating nails, the other takes peice off of its back and watches it; basicaly they need more to feel anything. The lyric "its not enough , i need more, nothing seems to satisfy, i dont want it, i just need it, to feel , to breathe to know im alive" is the stinkfist. The part in the video when the clay guy sees the other clay person in the room and she reaches out and pokes me with her arm extending, and he reacts with a really emotionaly face kinda like OHHHH. If you add all of these things up, the stinkfist is the never ending feeling for needing more. You get one emotion but its not enough you need to feel it more and you need to feel it stronger. You get bored with everyday living and you need more , you need something to keep you ocupied wich would be the stinkfist. This is my opinion of the song to hear what you others think would be great

Stinkfist is clearly about anal fisting. But here is how I like to think of the song: To me it's about a relationship where the people have gradually numbed themselves to just being "fistfucked" (or simply all about sex) instead of loved. They have plenty of artificial stimuli, but nothing real. They have become desensitized and bored because there are no real feelings. "It's not enough. I need more. Nothing seems to satisfy"He's no longer satisfied with just this meaningless relationship. Even sex no longer satisfies as he wants more, to feel more. I think it is about wanting to reach in to that other person to gain some togetherness, to, again, feel something real. (I believe this is where the anal fisting metaphor comes in....wanting to reach in to that person) He says, "I can help you change tired moments into pleasure. Say the word and we'll be well upon our way"To me, he is trying to get her to be more than just the bored sex partner. He wants more from her, he wants feelings. He'll help her change that boredom, the tired moments in to something better. If she would just show some emotion, something real, they could "be on their way". "Blend and balance pain and comfort deep within you till you will not have me any other way."The blend and balance of pain and comfort is love. If she can feel this love, see his love, she would realize she would not "want him any other way" (but with love with real feelings and real emotions).

lol I respec your opinion but c'mon that anal fisting thery is what alot of people think just because of the name. you here stinkyfist its something you first think about but i dont think maynard would make a song about anal fisting with that much emotion. I'm not trying to rip on your or anything lol i just dont liek that anal fisting thing. But one thing we both agree on is the idea about wanting more and needing more. Honestly i do see where your coming from though and i glad you posted your thoughts. Also if theres any other songs youd like to share your view about i would love to hear it.

Calm down stinky......it was a joke. But we all do really know that all of Maynard's songs are about anal sex. He's just fucking with us.

What do you all feel when you hear the Tool song "Disposition"? I love it. There are no more than 5 lines but these lyrics work so well with the music. I melt whenever I hear Maynard sing "Mention something...anything...and watch the weather change." It makes me feel sort of lonely. I think of a relationship where the communication has broken down and one partner is so desperate to relate but in the end all they can do is "watch the weather change" because there's nothing to say. Great song.

DISPOSITION:
"Watch the weather change"
Heard something about the cold season coming...winter perhaps....and all the animals dying...a sad point in the year...i know this vague but think about it....
"Mention something, mention anything...and watch the weather change"
It doesnt matter what you say...because sometimes talking about something else while something is going on....ignoring the animals dying by mentioning something else allows the person or whomever to not focus on the horrible time that is coming....
Random Shit: Heard about an outdoor concert in 2001/2002 over in Europe where it was raining all damn day....Tool comes and does their shit and during "DISPOSITION" when maynard said, "watch the weather change" it stopped raining....
EVEN CRAZIER....
Then after a while Tool belts in to the song"AENEMA" and during the lyric "I'm praying for rain" it started to rain again....
Who knows if this is true but i heard a while back that a famour rock magazine or pop mag did an article on this....who knows? not me...

The song desposition is a great song when i listen to it I here lonlyness or change. It seems likes he's wanting any sign to prove hes alive or it isnt a dream "mention somethings mention anything". Its kinda hard to explain but IMO thats kinda what I hear. I like that relation ship thought as well it makes alot of since and does go with the song.

This thread is going to turn into a monster. We should have probably created a thread for each song instead of a huge song interpretation thread.

This thread is going to turn into a monster. We should have probably created a thread for each song instead of a huge song interpretation thread. I agree. xxstinkfistxx: I hope you don't mind, I changed the thread title to "Stinkfist and Disposition interpretations". Since those two songs are already being discussed here, we'll continue this thread with only those two songs. Any other song interpretations you'd like to post, start a new thread for that song. Thanks!
