okay so im gonna try to attempt this phenomen that occured a few days ago...
A while back I had burned a bunch of LIVE TOOL tracks on to a cd. So the other day i was chillin and i smoked some weed and sat back and put the cd in my portable cd players, plugged in some headphones and hit play. After 50 minutes or so the cd ended and my jaw left hanging on the ground.
It seemed that the order of songs told a story, and a very amazing story at that. Each song some how flowed into one another creating an amazing experience. I am short on time now so I will leave you with the tracklist of songs, and later on i will tell you how i percieved these songs, and how they link up with one another.
I like to call this, Joe's Holy Gift AKA ------------- (to be inserted later)
TRACKLIST (all songs are live)
1. Cold and Ugly (Long intro) 2. 4* 3. Stinkfist (Alt. with extended breakdown and alt. lyrics) 4. Schism 5. Jimmy 6. Ticks & Leeches (Live in Europe with an extended intro of Danny Carey going absoloutley nuts on the drums, if u havent heard i feel sorry for you) 7. Aenema
Brief Description - Cold and Ugly starts off the CD by letting the listener know that the character that will be followed throughout this story is about a person who is so frightened and terrified of who he/she is. The person is scared to open up and is very stubborn and "cold". On the inside the character feels "ugly". "Nothing seems to penetrate" this person. After this song is over, 4 Degrees starts.

maybe re read this: A while back I had burned a bunch of LIVE TOOL tracks on to a cd. So the other day i was chillin and i smoked some weed and sat back and put the cd in my portable cd player and plugged in some headphones and hit play. After 50 minutes or so the cd ended and my jaw left hanging on the ground.
It seemed that the order of songs told a story, and a very amazing story at that. Each song some how flowed into one another creating an amazing experience. ---------------------------
Basically what I was trying to say was that I created a CD with LIVE TOOL TRACKS and it just so happened that the order i had put them in (which was accidental, no intent was involved) made an amazing CONCEPT ALBUM. The whole CD is ONE story and this is my interpretation of it. Basically MJK's lyrics tell the story so MJK is the narrator. But lets get rid of MJK and say that I am the narrator.
Track 1 - Cold and Ugly - Here the story starts out with the main character being introduced. The main character I guess we will call her KATIE for a lack of a better name. So KATIE is a very scared and frightened individual. Taken from the lyrics given "underneath her skin and jewlery hidden in her words and eyes is a world thats cold and ugly and shes scared as hell"...Okay so that is pretty self explanitory. KATIE has had horrible things happen to her in her past. She has had no succesful relationships. She feels that everyone is out to get her. "Nothing seems to penetrate her cause shes scared as hell" The part where mjk sings "I AM FRIGHTENED TOO" is basically the narrator of the story saying he is frightened for her cuz he doesnt know what she is gonna do.
KATIE continues to seclude herself from society. KATIE won't open up for anybody and she views the world as a horrible and disgusting place. KATIE is on the brink of seriously hurting herself. I don't know what happens but basically she meets a guy who she feels is different. Her intuition tells her that this guy might be able to make things okay for her. We will call this guy BOB. This is where the next track comes in.
Track 2 - 4 Degrees - This song is basically from the BOBs point of view. He wants to help KATIE and show her that all is not dark and scary. So this song is BOB singing the lyrics to KATIE. Pretty self explanitory I suppose.
Gots to go

That sounds tight, man. If I can get those songs and shit, I will make the album. It sounds pretty cool to me. I like the story concept and it actually makes sence.
Thanks for posting that!

Just my two cents, but I don't think the version matters so much, Soul. It has to do with the lyrics because the sequence of songs is telling a story. I still don't see where "jimmy" and "Aenema" fit in, though. I understand it's about a relationship eventually going sour (as evident in "Schism"), but I don't see where healing from child abuse and L.A. being destroyed by an earthquake or the resulting tsunami go with the story of Katie and Bob.

Maybe if you put your own touch on the song it could work. Like when Maynard says he is prayin for rain and tidal waves, He could be hoping for a relationship to go sour first instead of them going sour on him. And with the child abuse themed song, You could say that he is recovering from child abuse which obviously was a bad relationship and he's tryin to get passed it and look into a hopeful relationship... Maybe? I dunno I'm tired

Track 3 - Stinkfist (Alt lyrics "Caught in a trap/I cant walk out/Because I love you too much baby Why Can't you see what you're doing to me?/oh i love u too much baby/
KATIE basically is overwhelmed and does not listen to what BOB has to say. Stinkfist is KATIE singing and tell how she feels. That she is an addict and needs help. She is talking to maybe a drug or whatever someone can be addicted to. Love perhaps? So you get this one i hope its pretty self explanitory. Just think of something along the lines of someone who is self destructive and thats how KATIE feels.
Track 4 -SCHISM - Just the narrotor telling the story of KATIE and BOB and whomever. The last lines "i know the pieces fit" is basically the narrator telling KATIE that everything is okay and everything is one. Comfort is going to be found. Schism tells the story of pain and also encourages reconcilliation. You guys can use your imagination.
To be continued

I guess in "Ænema" the relationship gets so tiresome and stereotypical that the only way out is through a total cleansing, a purification in which everything starts over again. In "Schism" there was still hope for reconciliation, for a common understanding, a middle-ground, but that hope is shattered in the next tracks. Either way, that's a very interesting playlist indeed, and I think I have all those live versions, I'll have to check out my toolish database ;D Thanks for the heads-up, good topic Ps: I know this is an old topic, but it only got my attention now, hope you don't mind ;D
