We've gotten several emails that radio stations across the US are playing a 30-second teaser clip from "Vicarious". From what we understand, none of them will have the full track until Monday. UPDATE: Well, "Vicarious" has leaked. Seems the record label was prepping to release the song Monday, sent online to radio stations. And it seems they left the FTP site unprotected for a few minutes. So now, naturally, it is all over the place. Do not ask us for it, because technically it is not supposed to be available yet, and technically it is stolen. We're just providing the info to keep you updated. source: toolshed.down.netWe all knew this would happen, just a matter of time. Amazing how people can get a hold of it so easily. Though if we remember well, 'With Teeth' was leaked entirely before being released, I guess it's unavoidable, especially if it's a much expected release, which is the case for both. I have heard the song, and honestly I like it, but I'll reserve my judgement for when I'll truly have the album on my hands. Tool is back

I have only heard the last three minutes or so (stupid radio stations weren't playing it much yesterday), but I agree with Bastardometer that some parts resemble "Schism." What I've heard so far sounds good, though.

I'm starting to dig it more and more, much in the same way as with all their other albums, some time is needed to adjust our minds to it. It's more "accessible" if one can call it like that, but if you look closely it's not that different from their earlier work (more raw-like). If it reminds me of "Schism", that I haven't perceived yet, but right at the beginning there's some part that is pretty much the same as the beginning of "Pushit" if you pay close attention, or so it sounds to me. But I think it's a great song, actually I was expecting it to sound like this, since they've said it was going to be "heavier" than usual. Though I must admit the vocals take some time to get used to. And that sudden explosion at the beginning is just.. well.... delicious to say the least.

Yeah, I thought it sounded a lot like Schism too, but I still like it. Kind of reminds me of Third Eye a little bit too. (For some reason
I thought it was cool how Maynard changed up his vocals a bit.
I give it a 8/10.

I heard the whole song just a few minutes ago and it sounds great, but will probably not be my favorite song on the album. I wish I could decipher more of the lyrics. So far all I can gather is this guy is watching TV because he likes the violence. Oh, and something about vampires.

While checking the leaked art posted by bastardometer, it kind of elucidated me a bit. The fetus within the skull might simbolize the way we "grow" and gather experience from the world around by using our sight (this connection is simbolized by the umbilical cord), and how the tv (the focus of this song, or so it seems) plays a huge part nowadays in that process, for better and worse. We tend to make all sorts of judgements about the world, and at the same time not give much importance to those events depicted on the screen, since it doesn't affect us directly, like wars, or famine, etc. We feed off those images (therefore the vampirism reference) sometimes in a very sick way, and I think this song is about that. I might be wrong though, but it's good to make these connections, always loved to do that with their prior albums. ;D Btw, you can check the lyrics here: www.songmeanings.net/lyric.php?lid=3530822107858589806

Excellent theory, and thanks for the link to the lyrics. They actually make sense, unlike some early attempts at "Schism" and other songs off of Lateralus. I hope Maynard sends the official lyrics to toolshed.down.net soon, though. He'll probably send Kabir something about a month after 10,000 Days comes out. Right now I'm being a good little TOOL fan and absorbing the music first.

I just caught part of it on the car radio a little while ago. I'm not sure whether I like it or not. I'll have to hear the whole thing and not be battling traffic at the time. ;D Edit: Yay! I just heard slightly more of it on the car radio. This time at night with the road empty so I could pay more attention. I really like it and can't wait to hear the whole thing.

I haven't heard more than the last 40 seconds or so. WTF? My radio stations here play maybe once a day at like midnight so I always miss it. FUCK IT. I will wait and just buy the album to hear it.

Yipee, I finally heard the whole thing. It does sound familiar somehow, but I like it. ;D Not that I can tell what the hell he's saying.

The radio stations aren't playing it very often around here, either. I don't get it. About ten years ago, they overplayed "Stinkfist," "Aenema," and "Forty-Six & 2" to the point where I started hating TOOL. It seemed like I heard a TOOL song every time I was in the car. Now that I love them and can't get enough of them, I can't find a radio station that's playing "Vicarious." I think I've heard it all the way through four times since April 17. I may have to have a little talk with some of my favorite dj's.
