Now that everyone should have a copy of 10,000 Days, what are your initial thoughts on the album? I think I need to listen to it a few more times through to really absorb it, but right now my favorite songs are "Jambi" and "Right in Two."

There are 11 amazing tracks, but I find myself listening to Right In Two over and over again. Just something about. Simply brilliant. The music in Jambi is out of this world awesome and the beginning vocals on The Pot is some of MJK's best work. I also dig the bass on this track. Every minute of Intension blows my mind away. But for some reason, I would have to say Right In Two is my favorite. Great music, great lyrics, what more do ya need.
P.S. Artwork is awesome. Maynard's mohawk is beautiful.

I have to say this was the hardest one to get into so far. I was always skeptical the first time I would listen to a Tool album. But from my experience, I knew that would change once I'd listen to it several times, "putting the pieces back together". And now I must say this album is amazing. There's this whole slew of ideas put together that make it into a really pleasant experience. I've heard some complaints about the lyrics, but I didn't expect them to be as "profound" as "Lateralus", since they've made it clear that it wouldn't be a "Lateralus: Pt. II" a long time ago. They fit perfectly to each song, and a prime example is of course "Vicarious" (I still hear certain parts resembling other songs, like "Schism", and "Pushit" at the beginning, don't know if it's my imagination playing tricks). "Jambi" is one of my favourite tracks. I can hear the influence of Meshuggah (love them btw) very clearly on this one, and when I started hearing it I kind of feared Maynard would start a session of good ol' growling, but fortunately that didn't happen. Some really nice vocals on this one throughout the whole song, which fit like a charm to the song's rhythm, just beautiful. Both "Wings of Marie" tracks, well, I didn't get into them as deep as needed. Many say it's the best tracks on the album, but I dare to disagree. Although to be honest, I still don't know much about the lyrics, so I'll have to make a judgement about those later on. "The Pot". Great, great, great, great. Love the vocals, love the sound, love the lyrics, love everything about it. That part near the end when he sings again "Liar lawyer, mirror for ya', what's the difference?" and then Maynard's dear fellow countrymen go into full throttle is nothing less than toolgasmic. ;D The sort of segues interlaced in between the songs aren't that interesting IMO, I wish they could've done at least one or two more tracks as good as the rest in turn, but they aren't bad at all either. Then "Rosetta Stoned" brought me back some good memories. It reminds me very much of "Third Eye". The vocals here are also perfect together with the music itself, I guess this is what they meant before when they mentioned they would try something different with the vocals on this album (also noticeable of course in "The Pot" and regarding the voicebox thingie in "Jambi"). I can't say if it's my favourite track off the album, but very close to that indeed. The second half of the song is simply astonishing. I just love it. "Intension" is quite good also, love the little melody in it, very nice. "Disposition" comes to mind while listening to this one, that's why I have it right before this one on my playlist. About "Right In Two", another great song from Tool. I love the lyrics, and it sounds very APC-like to me somehow, which is great. I find myself always humming the lyrics to this one, it's quite addictive. I was hoping for "Viginti Tres" to be a quite surreal track with wonderful vocals, but was extremely disappointed with the noise I found. It's just strange, even for Tool. Overall, it's a great album, and one bound to be in constant rotation in my stereo everyday, just like every one of their albums, masterpieces that deserve all our attention and dedication. Yes, dedication, because Tool, unlike most bands, demand dedication, and time to really absorb everything they can give us, and when we do find that balance, it's like a whole new world opens to us, our "Third Eye" No matter what many are saying about it, this is one great album.

Well, for one thing the packaging distracted me from putting the CD in at first! ;D That has to be the best I've ever seen. Like right up there with the Cheech and Chong album that came with rolling papers.
I really like Jambi and track 8. (Haven't learned all the names yet.) I'll have to listen to it a few more times before I give my final opinion though. I will say however that I wish it wasn't so short. Of course, I have no room to be saying something like that cuz we're lucky we got anything at all from them. ;D

Overall, I am rather disappointed with this album. I forced myself to listen to it again and although I love the instrumental work on every song, Maynard's lyrics and vocals are absolute crap on some tracks. To paraphrase my younger sister, the good moments are phenomenal and the mediocre moments are really obvious. I blame Maynard.

He's only 1/4 of this band ........ seems a bit steep to put the blame on him............. I , for one , dig this album a lot................though Undertow will always be my fav............ Going to see them in phoenix on the 6th (Saturday)..........guess I'll see how they pull this off live

Everyone has their opinion of the album, and I think it's great that everyone can express their emotions without anyone knocking them.... I love this site, and you guys and gals! I'm with "G" on this one, the whole album is Tool enhancing their excellent skills of music... the album is great! The favourites, "The Pot" MJK's words are excellent in this song, it's expressive and hones in on alot of emotion! Then "Right In Two" keeps repeating itself in my cd player , I'm so glad I got another one as it's already bouncing.... lol! "G" please let us know how the concert was, we'd so like to hear how they are live, my guess... they'll be amazing! Can't wait roll on June 14th, my tickets arrived today! So excited!!

Okay.............heres the set list for my show......
Lipan Conjuring Lost Keys (Blame Hofmann) Rosetta Stoned Stinkfist The Pot Forty Six & 2 Jambi Schism Eon Blue Apocalypse The Patient Sober Lateralus Vicarious Ænema
MJK came out for Rosetta Stoned with a mohawk (fake?).......seems like it may be some sort of wig..........not quite sure Ray Ban (highway patrol) sunglasses......blue jeans with a big belt buckle and cowboy boots..........shirtless..... They all just started going off..............the sound was unreal........was surprised that Justin was playing some of the parts that he was (very guitar'ish) like , the solo for Vicarious , for instance.........pleasant surprises........
MJK made a couple of funny comments during the show......"Buy the new album....I need the money as I'm trying to put a new wing on the winery" (which I went to and purcased two pairs of two blends he had available...)
He also mentioned that he wanted to buy a gold plated Hummer........plus "If you buy the album , you'll get to hear some new songs"..........
They did a short intermission after Lateralus............Maynard aged the fans on to get louder by putting a cupped hand up to his ear........looked at his watch........then did it again.........The show had a real good vibe.........
They ended the show with Ænima and , of course , everyone had to yell the "Arizona Bay".......part , hehe
They did every song flawless , at least it appeared that way to me.......chatted with Adam for a second after the show and he griped abouit fucking up the talk box part/solo during Jambi..........I told him I didn't notice.............The whole show was a journey........too short for me...........though , they could probably play for days and It wouldn't be enough..............
Damn I love TOOL and I already cant wait to see them again.............

Anyone else finds "Rosetta Stoned" kind of deceiving, full of layers? At first I laughed at the lyrics, it was really funny, but then I realised the song was actually much deeper than it seems. A sad tale about the One, the one that was chosen by these entities he is seeing, but not by the people around him ("You believe me don't you?? Please believe what I just said."). In this he finds hope ("This is so real. Finally it's my lucky day."), he hopes he can change his life, he hopes to be someone, to get out of the hole he's in. It's his chance to get away.
("But I forgot my pen. Shit the bed again... typical.")
No matter what, he can't change what he is. All of it, these entities, this "holy" mission is nothing but a vain hope of being worthy of something, it's all in his head, thoughts and dreams fueled by drugs.
He "can't remember what they said" maybe because.. it just never happened.. for real.
What a great song, I'm loving this album..

Hi. Not been on here in a while.....Feel a little outta place!
I actually found 10,000 days the easiest to get into. It just flowed so easily on my ears. Its a trully great album. More mature, emotional (by that I mean not just 'angry') and I reckon the vocals are some of the best he has ever done. I don't know if its just me but it feels like they have all improved somewhat. I didn't think that was possible!! I can't really decide what my favourite track is though. I keep flitting between Right in two and the title track of which I think is really moving. Then I start thinking "well I think 'the pot' is awesome too and 'Vicarious'". I dunno. Maybe I'll figure it out sooner or later. I hope I get to see them when they play a tour of the uk. I also hope you guys are all well. I'll be on here more often. ~ravenous~

I'm actually warming up to more songs on 10,000 Days, especially the "Wings" tracks. I hope you get to see TOOL, ravenous. Let us know if you do. The Boston show on May 21 kicked ass, although "Lost Keys" and "Rosetta Stoned" were kind of boring. They could have played something older instead, but that's just my opinion.
