Rest In Peace
"Dimebag" Darrell Abbott 1966-2004
well what could really be said. the all time greatest. the greatest metal guitarist in history shot and killed with 5 bullets to the head at point blank range. one of the biggest tragedy's in music history, to me... one of the biggest tragedy's in American history. this man was not was not just some guitar player.. he wasn't just another guy in some fuckin band. Dimebag Darrell Abbott was one of the most beautiful people. He was one of the greatest. Greatest not just in music, but as a human being. A tragedy so heinous and heathenistic i couldn't even imagine.
what kind of person is allowed to jump on stage, pull out a gun and kill someone? what kind of person gets passed 3 lines of security to jump on a stage and KILL a person? what does it say when a man cannot go up on stage, perform for people, making them happy and giving them a hell of a night and he gets killed for it? what does it say when a man cannot do the number one thing he loves without getting shot and killed? that man lived for the fans, that man played his heart out every single night for the fans. and to have his life taken away in that fashion is a disgrace, to have his life taken in front of those fans, to have his life taken away by a so called fan.
words cannot describe the emotion, thepain, the anger, the grief, the sadness.... anyone who knew, respected, loved, and cherished Dimebag Darrell knows. I know, I loved the man. I loved him ever since I heard him fuckin rip and thrash and tear on the strings of my all-time favorite PanterA song "This Love" back in 1995. 9 years later... the man himself... dies. what can really be said? what words can i use to explain the man,the life of Dime. how can i vividly describe the emotional anger and pain and suffering amongst the fans. the emotional pain and suffering and anger of the Abbott family.
Vinnie Paul, the brother of Dime... seen his brother get shot 5 times in the fuckin head. Rushing towards Dime, screaming "Call 911! Call the police!!" while holding his dead brother. Nathan Gale... the gunman. also shot at the scene by the hero of the scene, James D. Neggemeyer. I never thought I'd say a cop as a hero but he is, god damnit. Killing the gun-man before he kills other innocent people. I just wish Gale was alive today. He should have been fed to the dogs. The dogs known as the Pantera and Damageplan fans. The Dimebag Darrell fans. The people who have known Pantera,Dime,Vinnie,Damageplan. Rob Zombie and Mel Gibson together couldn't make that scene justice when we get through with him. He's dead though, along with Dime.
And who can forget Jeff. One of the kings of the Dallas music scene. Always there for everyone. A true part of the Damageplan family. No instruments played,no directing of videos. He was the security for Damageplan, he lined up to stop anything that came their way that could cause harm. He even said he will take a bullet for everyone of his friends and unfortunately, he did in the defense of Dime's life and the other 4 innocent spectators who were murdered. He gave his life to protect their lives. Only a honest and true friend will do that. Many people say "Oh, yea I'll take a bullet for ya, man! Mark my words" Put a fuckin pistol to my temple and see how many people would take that silver bullet to the head for my sake... This man attempted to save the lives of many there. If he didn't wrestle with Nathan Gale in attempt to stop the gun-man.. many others would have died. As he tried to take down Gale, Gale fired a shot to the mans chest. His heart and courage was as big as the state of Texas, he took the shot to save many. You cant find a friendship like that.
One year later and we celebrate the life. The life of everyone, not just Dime and Jeff but the innocent people who got their life taken away at the AlrosaVilla Nightclub in Columbus, Ohio. We celebrate their legacy. Dime's legacy of metal mayhem and trashing guitar playing. His legacy as a human being, the great person he was. The person most people over look in Dime. Many people see Dimebag Darrell as a guitar player. Others see him as a guy in a band. Some see him as a legend. I remember Dimebag Darrell Abbott as a legend. A legend of Heavy Metal and a legend in life. 1 year ago around 11 p.m. A legend died. 1 year later, we remember the legend, the legacy, and the life of "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott. Rest in Peace
"I've been around this world
Yet I see no end
All shall fade to black again and again
This storm that's broken me
My only friend
In this river all shall fade to black
In this river ain't no coming back
In this river all shall fade to black
Ain't no coming back
Withdrawn I step away
Just to find myself
The door is closed again
The only one left
This storm that's broken me
My only friend" - In This River (Black Label Society)
