Time present and time past Are both perhaps present in time future, And time future contained in time past.
Time Travel.. is it possible? What is it? Does time really exist in minutes, seconds, hours? Thought this would be an interesting, philosophical discussion:) so please share your ideas and philosophies.. I definitely have mine...but I am opening the door to you all...please walk through it:) -Sparrow

Hehe that's a difficult one. I think it is not possible to do time travels physically (sit in a machine and get there), but you can do it mentally if you think back a few years and with technical aid we can get a glimpse how it might have been. Fortunately, we cannot take a look into the future, what chaos would that be?! Nevertheless, we do think about the future, because we have to plan our life, we need it because we need as much security as we can have. And knowing about the future makes us feel secure. BTW, you will laugh about this one, but yesterday right before I fell asleep I though about starting a threat on how you think our world will look like in 2100 or something like that hehe Thinking about why we count time in seconds/minutes/hours/days/months/years is REALLY philosophical. I think human beings started it to be able to lable certain occasions. Moreover we have another secure thing to give our day (here we are again) or life a structure...what would be if we didn't know how old we are? A reason why the day has 24 hours is the sun. It's a cycle - it comes again and again. Why it had to be 24...why one minute has 60 seconds....I really don't know. Very unusual for that we love to think in 10's (100=10*10 ...)

For some wild out of the way reson i don't think it is possible....I think that the past is lost forever and you can never go back just a thought i have. And i have a very strong feeling that no one will ever figure it out just watch what happens from now.....

Hey Guys! Thanks for sharing your thoughts.. :)I cant explain it all right now or reply in great depth..but I was wondering if anybody here has heard of the "string theory" and "chaos theory"... I took a physics/astronomy class a couple of years back and it blew my mind...!! Ill have to come back later when I have time to explain it all...but I agree with you Nessie about physically building a time machine and experiencing time travel.. Im not so sure about that one.. however there are those that believe that the black holes in space can suck up "time".. ( more on that later:)...I think to an extent time travel IS possible... I think we are in a constant state of existence... we are living our past, present and future- simultaneously..I cant really explain it all right now as I am getting ready to fly out the door... but, I will try and be back later...( perhaps I have already written this down to you all .. anybody having some sort of deja vu moment? toodles...! Sparrow
btw.. btw anybody seen The Butterfly Effect or Donnie Darko?:0

... I think we are in a constant state of existence... we are living our past, present and future- simultaneously.. There you said it...I have nothing to add...it's just true. And that is something that we should be totally aware of: everything has a reason and everything will be a reason for things happening in the future...you cannot act like there will be no consequences for what you do. And when we've done something, we should not regret it, because there was a reason why we've done it! Kinda hard....I know...but I'm trying hard! BTW...I know of both theories. It's really fascinating!

Its definitely a topic that can spin your brain into a state of utter confusion no? what with all the paradoxes etc etc.
Someone mentioned the whole transcendentalist idea of "interconectedness" theory. Quite an interesting thought, and topic that comes up a lot within tools music. Its doubtfull wether the whole idea of a unified consciousness and the perfection of being is a result of observing pure coincidental consequence, or if it in fact a planned out fact that everything is one/unified consciousness. After all, good only exists because its being compared to something that's bad.....
However, what this has to do with time travel, they're not usually associated, although im sure they can be.
Nessie: The way that the months/days etc etc are planned out isnt just by chance. Its by extremely close observation of activity with the earths place inrelation to the sun etc etc, which im sure dosnt have to be explained, but yeah. And its usefull to know this not just because a human nature aspect of "desiring to know how old you are" but in the old skool days when this shiz-nit was being sussed out, everyone was a farmer and they needed to know when would be the best times to plant their crops etc etc. We have a pretty convienient little cycle really. How lovely to live on earth.
But back to the topic of time travel itself, in our current path of how we accept knowledge of the world around us, I dont think time travel will ever be possible. Not in the pysical sense at least, but that is the most satasfying and exciting definition of the term. Lolzerz.
Yeah, seen Donnie Darko, that's an interesting concept of time travel. What an amazing film. Wicked cool soundtrack aswell....

If you enjoyed Donnie Darko or The Butterfly Effect.. then you also might like the movie THE WAKING LIFE- it is not necessarily about time travel but it more or less deals with what is real and what is not... and also you all might want to check out the movie What the Bleep Do We Know? talk about a movie that makes your head spin..that movie deals a lot with quantum physics...!! also...I do happen to believe in the interconnectedness of all beings... but will have to comment on it later! Thanks you everybody who has replied so far!! I loved reading everybody's stuff!.. be back later! - Sparrow

Sparrow, Im glad you did bump this. Somehow I missed this thread. Great thread and already some interesting replies. I too, would like to comment, but am, at the moment exhausted. I would love to get back to this though. Just a quick note on your mention of deja vu....whenever I have experienced this, it is very, very real to me. It's not just an odd moment or a coincidence to me.....something else is going on. I have experience deja vu moments that have put me almost in to "another world", "another time" feeling. I can't explain it properly especially being so tired. But I feel like I am kind of between worlds and not completely here in this physical world at that moment. If that makes any sense at all.

Hi Halo and everybody! Halo- You hit on a subject that facinates me.. the idea of alternate realms..and perhaps reincarnation and the mind..again.. I dont have time to reply in great depth but thanks for taking an interest in this.. :)and I hope I get the chance to reply to everybody else's statements this weekend..I love this topic and thank you all for taking an interest in it too! be prepared its about to get deep in here:) VOG?- no thoughts yet? Hi Halo and everybody! Halo- You hit on a subject that facinates me.. the idea of alternate realms..and perhaps reincarnation and the mind. Yes, it fascinates me too. As I said, when I've had these deja vu feelings, they are very, very strong and I can feel that I am not totally "here". It's like having one foot in one realm the other foot in this realm. It's so hard to explain, but it kind of feels like time stops for that moment also. It's a very odd feeling. be prepared its about to get deep in here:) Go for it!! I love it! I would also like to hear more opinions on this. I hope we can all gather our thoughts and start posting some more on this. Thanks Sparrow!

Wormholes Thorne believes there could be another type of tunnel-like structure existing in the universe that could be used for a time travel portal. Wormholes, also called Einstein-Rosen Bridges, are considered to have the most potential for time travel if they do exist. Not only could they allow us to travel through time, they could allow us to travel many light-years from Earth in only a fraction of the amount of time that it would take us with conventional space travel methods. Wormholes are considered possible based on Einstein's theory of relativity, which states that any mass curves spacetime. To understand this curvature, think about two people holding a bed sheet up and stretching that sheet tight. If one person were to place a baseball on the bed sheet, the weight of the baseball would roll to the middle of the sheet and cause the sheet to curve at that point. Now, if a marble were placed on the edge of the same bed sheet it would travel toward the baseball because of the curve. In this example, space is depicted as a two-dimensional plane rather than the four dimensions that actually make up spacetime. Imagine that this sheet is folded over, leaving a space between the top and bottom. Placing the baseball on the top side will cause a curvature to form. If an equal mass were placed on the bottom part of the sheet at a point that corresponds with the location of the baseball on the top, the second mass would eventually meet with the baseball. This is similar to how wormholes might form. In space, masses that place pressure on different parts of the universe could eventually come together to form a tunnel -- this is a wormhole. We could then travel from Earth to another galaxy and back relatively quickly (within a lifetime). For instance, let's picture a scenario in which we would want to travel to Sirius, a star that's seen in the Canis Major constellation just below Orion. Sirius is about 9 light-years from Earth, which is about 54 trillion miles (90 trillion km). Obviously, this distance would be far too great for space travelers to traverse and return in time to tell us about what they saw there. So far, the farthest people have traveled into space is to the moon, which is only about 248,548 miles (about 400,000 km) away from Earth. If we could find a wormhole that connected us to the space around Sirius, then we could cut the time considerably by avoiding the trillions of miles that we would have to cross with traditional space travel. So how does all of this relate to time travel? As we discussed earlier, the theory of relativity states that as the velocity of an object nears the speed of light, time slows down. Scientists have discovered that even at the speeds of the space shuttle, astronauts can travel a few nanoseconds into the future. To understand this, picture two people, person A and person B. Person A stays on Earth, while person B takes off in a spacecraft. At takeoff, their watches are in perfect sync. The closer person B's spacecraft travels to the speed of light, the slower time will pass for person B (relative to person A). If person B travels for just a few hours at 50 percent the speed of light and returns to Earth, it will be obvious to both people that person A has aged much faster than person B. This difference in aging is because time passed much faster for person A than person B, who was traveling closer to the speed of light. Many years might have passed for person A, while person B experienced a time lapse of just a few hours. Find out more about this twin paradox in How Special Relativity Works. If wormholes could be discovered, it might allow us to travel to the past as well as the future. Here's how it would work: Let's say the mouth of the wormhole is portable. Then person B in the example above, who traveled at 50 percent of light speed into space for a few hours, could carry one wormhole mouth into space, while the mouth at the opposite end of the wormhole would stay with person A on Earth. The two people would continue to see one another as person B traveled into space. When person B returned to Earth a few hours later, a few years may have passed for person A. Now, when person A looks through the wormhole that traveled into space, that person will see him or herself at a younger age, the age he or she was when person B launched into space. The cool thing about it is that the older person A would be able to step into the past by entering the wormhole, while the younger person B could step into the future.
