Below is a petition you can sign, following that is a letter from moveonPAC.org and a request for donations, and finally a letter from John Kerry.
PLEASE, do what you can!
Sandra Day O’Connor, a widely respected and moderate justice, has resigned from the Supreme Court. Now, in anywhere from a few hours to a few days President Bush will nominate a replacement—and what happens next will either destroy or protect our most basic rights for decades to come. This is an absolutely critical moment for our senators to hear directly from the people—and our message is clear: PROTECT OUR RIGHTS!
We’ve launched an urgent petition to take your voice straight to your senators in this critical time to show Congress, the president and the media that the American people are engaged and ready to fight for our rights. Please sign today:

Dear MoveOn member,
Just days after Justice O'Connor's resignation, the fight to protect our rights is in full swing. By all accounts, this will be a long, fierce campaign. The radical right is already pouring millions of dollars in large, secret contributions into the right wing spin machine, determined to ram through whomever Bush puts forward.1
We have a different approach, one that relies on millions of ordinary Americans giving what we can to protect our rights—and this is when you're needed most.
If Bush announces an extremist nominee we'll to need respond fast and hard with ads on the airwaves and in major newspapers that get our message out—and none of it comes cheap. So today we're launching our Emergency Fund to Protect our Rights with an initial goal of $500,000. If you can help us get there now, we can leap straight into action the moment we hear the news.
If keeping an extremist off the Supreme Court is important to you, this is a great time to chip in.

The national press is already reporting that this will be the most expensive, ruthless Supreme Court nomination ever. They're calling this the "Presidential election of 2005"2 and estimating as much as $100 million will be spent in the fight.3
Why are far-right leaders like Jerry Falwell and James Dobson determined to spend so much? Because even with Republican control of Congress and the White House, our independent courts (not to mention the Constitution) still interfere with their drive to impose a narrow, far right agenda on the rest of America. After more than 10 years without an opening on the Supreme Court, this is the chance they've been waiting for to seize complete control.
As radical right leader Gary Bauer put it this week, the far right base elected a "conservative president and a conservative Senate majority for precisely this moment."4 Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council said it this way: "When the time comes, a Supreme Court vacancy cannot be considered just one of many issues, but THE fight to end all domestic fights."5 And Pat Roberston, asking for divine intervention to remove Supreme Court Justices wrote, "I don't care which three, I mean as long as the three conservatives stay on. There's six liberals, so it's up to the Lord."
These radical right leaders and their millions of dollars have tremendous sway with Bush and many members of the Senate. To counter their influence and protect our rights we'll need to be able to hit the airwaves, as well as the streets and the phone lines, as soon as a nominee is announced—and keep up the volume through what will surely be a long, brutal campaign.
If we can raise $500,000 for our Supreme Court Emergency Fund today, we'll be off to a great start. Please give what you can.

Let's make our principles crystal clear right out of the box.
We will never support a Supreme Court nominee intent on reversing Roe v. Wade and undoing critical civil rights protections. And we will never accept a double standard that says, on a decision vital to America's future, President Bush's most extreme supporters can campaign all-out while you and I are urged to be silent.
I am asking you to endorse and help pay for a powerful message that will appear in the days ahead in newspapers across the country. Show the President and the Senate just how strongly you feel about protecting our fundamental freedoms:

From the range of choices the White House is currently considering, America and the Constitution would be best served if President Bush chooses a nominee in the mold of Sandra Day O'Connor, who was named to the Court by no less of a conservative than Ronald Reagan and approved unanimously by the United States Senate.
But President Bush's most extreme supporters are demanding a nominee who doesn't think or act anything like Justice O'Connor. They want a rigid ideologue who will reverse what President Bush has called the "settled law" of Roe v. Wade, one who will support their efforts to use the Supreme Court as a battering ram to undo decades of progress on civil rights, Roe v. Wade, and privacy.
They want something else as well.
They want you and me to participate in this momentous debate about fundamental freedoms with one hand tied behind our back. They actually expect us to step aside while they roll over our rights. Let's prove that we will never let that happen.

While they unleash a multi-million dollar advertising campaign on behalf of President Bush's choice in close coordination with the White House, you and I are supposed to remain silent -- lest we be charged with "rushing to judgment."
While they conduct a no-holds-barred effort to brush aside any and all questions about the nominee's record and his or her commitment to protecting individual freedom, you and I are supposed to be silenced for fear of being called "obstructionists" and cowered by their threat to revive the "nuclear option."
That's worse than unacceptable. It's un-American, and it's not how we carry on public debate in the greatest democracy on earth. Show them that, with the future of the Supreme Court on the line, we won't stand on the sidelines:

I know I can count on your support in making the following commitment: I will insist on a complete and full examination of the record of President Bush's nominee. And, if that nominee is intent on reversing Roe v. Wade and essential Supreme Court protections for civil rights, I will use every option I have as a United States Senator to keep that nominee off the Court.
Sincerely,
John Kerry
P.S. Don't let them silence our voices. Go out in your community and spread the word along to everyone you know by passing on this message. We must all commit ourselves to standing up for Roe V. Wade and our civil rights.
