This is rather lengthy, but this is my questions to Patrick that I e-mailed him and his replies: (my questions are in italics)
I like the way message boards allow quotes, so I'll be lamely
half-assing a small recreation of that quoting process. I do this so I
can approach all of your points. I hope you don't mind.
What's up with that site? Seriously. It was brought to my attention from someone at my board. And
I'm totally confused. Then it's a good thing you took the responsibility to mail me, I'll
try and explain myself as best as possible.
Are you really that disturbed about the logo and the name "A Perfect
Circle", or are you disturbed with the band APC?I'm not so much "disturbed," as I am "perturbed."
Which is to say, I'm fairly disgruntled by the thought of a band using a logo of such contradicting appearance.
It started out as a little investigative work as to why APC had chosen the logo, which I found no evidence to support the choice. Sure it's slightly catchy and a bit nifty to look at, but to what means? The logo is fairly generic and not symbolic, so it shouldn't be too
hard for them to just say "fuck it, let's just use a true circle," not too hard at all in my opinion. So when my investigative efforts proved
fruitless, I worked off a hunch that APC were, in fact, a sham.
.... twas not so much a hunch as it was a gut feeling, I mean(if focusing this debate solely on Maynard) the guy has two bands in which one logo is utterly... breathtakingly... perfect, and another band in which the logo is as simple as two slivers of obscure inane preposterousity screaming of subpar design(woo-ooh, two cheers for two curves of non-sence!).
If it is the band, what about them and their music disturbs you so much?
It's great music. If it's the politics as so many have complained about...... I understand if you did not agree with their politics, you should have your say. But to be totally against their music because of their personal political views doesn't make much sense. Their political views aren't the problem either. I figure to each their own, I honestly barely care about the downfall of society. I'm venting about such things as them having the gall to just go and outright pick a logo of undisclosed purpose. The logo itself is a joke
when stood next to the label "A Perfect Circle," it's not hard to imagine the inner workings behind such an asinine enigma.
Example:
Billy: So.... can you imagine the fools who have been trying to interpret our logo with logical thoughts?
Maynard: Think we should tell them it's just a joke that we use to laugh at them behind their backs?
Josh: AND LOSE OUR FANBASE?!?!?!?!
Maynard: Gotcha!

Billy: You old prankster, you.
(all, as they throw back their heads): HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
That's like saying I don't do drugs, so I refuse to listen to any band that indulges in drugs and I will campaign against said band! How silly. Well, drugs are a different dilemma altogether.
But, If the band supports drugs and what drugs mean, then why would you want to support them if you'll, in turn, be supporting drugs? If the band only does drugs that's different. APC make it their point to show off their politics, whereas if they only did them in private it would be different.
Even then, drugs are a lesser touchy subject than politics, one who doesn't necessarily have views on drugs may be a very determined political speaker.
It's not about the people behind the music. It's about the music. If you don't like their music, don't listen. Why make such a big deal out of it? It's always about the people behind the music. The band members define the genre of music, the band members for the most part press their views into their musical expressions in whatever form of media they
choose be it their own personal image, their lyrics, the images they represent in videos, their album covers, their instrumental choices the tunes they go with, or the symbol they decide to represent themselves with. The band is the music. Fans don't flock to Mecca to
hear the radio play their favorite songs, or cover bands play Judith.... no they want the band to play that shit. People love picking on other people, in this case APC is having its fun with the public. They care not for the fans, just the money. Maybe they'd care a bit more for the fans if they realized that's all that is bringing them the money...
Well, anyways, it's nice that you mailed me. Questions help me sort out my views, and I need a bit of sorting, my site's only been up two days. I'm hardly finished, I was a bit rushed. I consider you mail as support, and I welcome it. Thanks. Support's always a great thing.
HaloIn return, I give ye thy own signature, it's been swell.

Later, when I have some time, I'll be checking out your site. I may make an appearance on your boards if I have enough time.
... all this speak of time, it makes me think about how the judgement of me having too much time has been circulating. I assure you, it's not at all like that. I'm very busy(I dedicate myself to many causes) and sacrifice a large amount of my sleeping time towards working on my site and the pursuit of getting APC to apologize to the public.
