well, I'm thinking of resigning from my job (child welfare) b/c unfortunately it's tooooo stressful and I had to take a 3 month leve of absence just to get my bearings..Thinking of returning to school, possibly for my master's..but lately, with all the shit going on, have thought about just joining up with the peace corps.

I thought I'd bump this thread since it's been awhile and I'm sure some of our jobs have changed since we first posted here. Currently, I'm working as a psychic reader in a little shop in Uxbridge, which is two towns west of mine. Things are slow right now but hopefully once the word gets out that the store has a reader, I'll get more customers.

I knew you were going to ask that! I am more empathic and intuitive than psychic, but I do see things sometimes. The quality of the reading depends on the connection I have with my client - if I have a strong connection with the person, I can tell more about his or her past, present, and future.

*bump again* Yesterday afternoon, I applied for a position at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. The Department of Medicine is looking for a scientific writer, which means that whoever gets the job will help the researchers apply for grants, write and submit papers for publication, and prepare presentations. The maximum salary is $40,000 per year - about 8 times what I'm currently collecting on disability. I really want and need this job! Although I still want to do creative writing, this could support me until I get published and become insanely rich and famous. Please wish me luck, pray to whatever gods or goddesses you worship, light candles, etc. Thanks!

Thanks, Polly. I was hoping to have some good news by now, but apparently the Human Resources department is still collecting resumes and they probably won't start interviewing people until September! My vocational counselor told me that the state can't help me get this job unless I make the first interview cut. You'd think that after three years of trying to place me somewhere, the rehabilitation commission would be begging on their hands and knees for UMASS to hire me!

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope they get their acts together and you pass the interview with flying colors! ;D

I literally annoy people world-wide. I work at InfoCision and I am a telemarketer. We don't ask for donations, but rather to have ppl mail or hand out letters that we ship to them upon their request. And that's basically what I do all day. I call people and ask them to mail out letters. It's for a good cause, We make calls for the American Heart Association,St. Jude's Children Research Hospital, The Alzheimers Association,March of Dimes, etc.... My job is boring to say the least but I get paid more than I did to bust my ass at mcdonalds so i'm currently content with my job.

My unemployment situation has gotten to the point where I tell people that I'm a writer just because it sounds better than "Oh, I don't work," which usually leads to an explanation of why I don't work and sometimes, it's none of their business. So, I'm a writer, even though I haven't been published yet.
