I guess I should say what I do, right?? Im currently working as a child welfare social worker. I work with families that are trying to get their kids returned to them and children in the foster care system. It's a thankless job, and OFTEN times I feel like quitting ..soooooo Why don't I quit??? Honestly, because I do my job well and I get paid a decent wage. It's definetly not boring but it can wear on you emotionally sometimes. I'm thinking of heading in a totally different career direction--maybe in the arts, music, film etc... I'm curious what you do in your normal day to day life...Are you a student, or live in cubicle land?

It may feel like a thankless job to you......but I for one, am very thankful that there are good people like you who do this. Thank you. Plus, you have to have the feeling within yourself, knowing that you are doing good work and helping people. It's how YOU feel inside about yourself that matters. I am an LPN but I work mainly as the Administrative Assistant/Social Services designee. Although many times I am on the floors working with the Residents when we are short on nursing staff. I work in a nursing home and can't even tell you all the "duties" that are assigned to me. This job also can wear on you. It's very easy to "burn out". I love the job and I love the Resident's dearly, but constantly dealing with the death of people you have come to love can really get to you. I deal with it by hoping that maybe I helped them in their last days, weeks, months and they felt my love. And also that I had been honored to have these people come in to my life even for a brief period of time. But I still cry and grieve for them. It can take it's toll on your heart and soul. I also work part time at a few concert venues. This can take it's toll also. I've been doing this off and on since I was 17. It's pure joy to be around the music, but sometimes the egos and attitudes can definitley take their toll on you.

Wow...you all do quite honorable jobs for the common good of people. I think that's admirable, because most of the people tend to think about themselves too much.
I'm a student at the University Of Applied Sciences. I study Telematics/Network Engineering. Although I didn't go to a technical school before, I decided to do it and I have the feeling that being able to influence the technical development in this world might have a lot of responsibility too. I'm the only girl in my semester...can be tough sometimes, but it's also funny! Next year I will write my diploma thesis...I am already looking forward to it!

I guess when I say it's "thankless" is that the general public only hears about my job when there are negative media stories regarding incidents that are truly horrible.. It must be something of an escape to be able to work around music, which is somthing I really LOVE, even though like you said: the egos, the attitudes...sometimes those things should be taken with a HUGE grain of salt.. when I need to escape at work, I don't need to look further than my wall, with APC, TOOL and NIN pics .. It's also such an admirable task you've undertaken working with the elderly in the last days/years of their lives, I know it'd probably be heartbreaking for me to be in your profession. Nessie--good luck with your semester!!

You are all doing great things! Keep it up, we do appreciate all of you! Well, apart from being a full time (not stay at home) mum..... I work for a Telecommunications company, they deal wtih CTI software for Contact Centres. My job title....lol..... Senior Maintenance Revenue Assistance! Now that is a mouth full! In an nutshell, I get orders from customers for them to receive software and tech support for the centres. We have high targets to meet each quarter, and brought in $100 mil revenue last year worldwide. It's a great job, I sometimes feel I need a bit of a challenge, and try to make it interesting for myself, I set tasks and try to get as much info as I can into my head to build up my knowledge base. Otherwise I think I'd go insane....... oh, too late!;D

I'm 26 years old and I still don't know what the hell I'm going to do for the rest of my life, besides write of course. The wine shop in the town above mine is looking for help, but I don't know if I should apply there or go for the big bucks of working in a science lab. I wish I didn't have to work at all and I could just sit on the computer and write stories all day. That would be awesome.
