Today I saw on the news a Vatican spokesperson claiming that the book is nothing but a bunch of lies, and that it should be immediately withdrawn from bookstores and censored. What the hell is this? Inquisition in the 21st century?? Maybe they should gather a pile of books and burn them, and maybe its author too.. I have nothing against religion but I think people should question themselves if it's not going too far. The book speaks of christ having married and having kids. What's the problem with that? Wasn't he made to the image of god? Weren't WE made to the image of god? So what's the problem in him having love needs, sexual needs, like everyone else? Is it so sinful to think so? This only demonstrates the lack of comprehension these people have, especially regarding sex, which is something so natural, that i really don't understand what's the point on depicting it as an act that goes against all their teachings. Anyway, I'm getting a bit out of line here ;D What do you think about this?

Well my biggest thing is, if it wasn't for sex, we really wouldn't exist would we? It really makes no sense for them to denounce having sex. HELLO!! It's what keeps the population going jackasses. No offense to any believers out there, but it always seems that the really religious people are always the first to judge and cast down. Isn't that wrong as well? And on top of that, they are constantly trying to cram their thoughts into other people's heads. I'm not talking about people who go to church every Sunday or regular people. I mean the severely religious people at the top of the church.

the theories in "The Da Vinci Code" are of course to be declined by the church - they don't have another opportunity, do they?! I am a Christian and I do believe in god, but I am also convinced that the curch itself is going a wrong path. I think, if it wasn't to withstand any sexual needs all days the rest of your life, a lot more priests would come out. It's really tragic, a lot of priests are so unhappy and some of them even commit suicide because of that. Besides, I don't know the reason why this should make you a special person - it definitely makes you desperate, but God definitely loves you to be in the attendance on him - with sexual needs too. We'll see, how the next pope is going to deal with this issue.
BTW, I love every single Dan Brown book, I gorged every one of them. He has this brilliant mixture of great research combined with a thrilling style of writing and a story full of tension. The encryption stuff in "Diabolus" is even something that I have to learn in my study program - so it's even more interesting!
greets, N.

I used to know this priest who was such and amazing person. He wasn't some holy roller or sermonizer, just a really down to earth great guy.
He literally had homeless people living in the parish house. I used to help out with feeding the poor and homeless with him.
You could talk to him like a good friend. He wouldn't ram anything religious down your throat or anything. He was great.
But he got fed up with being abstinent. And it wasn't just the sex, it was wanting to have a partner to share his life with. He left the priesthood. It was a very tough decision for him, but one he finally made.
I don't care about organized religion, but you'd think the church would want to hold on to good people like this man. But they really just don't care.

I think the Catholics are probably pissed because everyone thinks this book is so great and its the top selling adult novel ever, and it has some pretty anti christian "proof" type issues presented in it.

Thats not the debate here. I think that the debate is weather or not the code is fact or fiction (another source of this is Holy Blood, Holy Grail by Michael Baigent, Richard Leigh and Henry Lincoln.) Of course the church is going to be against this. They could lose their business. Information is power. It's easier to control a person if you deny them information. The church doesn't want people to think for themselves. They want them to obey. Just my opinion , but I implore you to do some research/investigating and come to your own conclusion

(another source of this is Holy Blood, Holy Grail by Michael Baigent, Richard Leigh and Henry Lincoln.) Not to mention a better source... damn pop culture... This book dosnt inspire people thinking for themselfs, they're still just reading the book because their friend thought it was cool and its been on the "NY times best seller list since 2003" Edit, and by "this book" I mean the Da Vinci Code, not HBHG
