An excerpt from an interview with George Stroumboulopoulos:
George:
DO YOU EVER DO THINGS INTENTIONALLY TO KEEP YOUR LIFE. . . DARKER?
Maynard:
WELL. . . I MEAN, NOT CONSCIOUSLY INTENTIONALLY BUT I'M SURE ON SOME LEVEL. YOU KEEP THE DRAMA-- I'M SURE THAT YOU'VE, IF YOU HAD SOME BAD BREAK-UPS IN THE LAST 10 YEARS, I'M SURE THAT IF YOU HAD FIVE BREAK-UPS, THREE OF THEM WERE VERY SIMILAR.
George:
ALL UGLY.
Maynard:
YEAH. BUT I MEAN THEY'RE PROBABLY OVER THE SAME SHIT.
George:
YOU WAKE UP AFTER THE FIFTH BREAK-UP AND GO, "OKAY, THE ONE THING IN COMMON HERE IS ME. I'M CLEARLY THE PROBLEM ON THIS."
Maynard:
RIGHT, RIGHT, RIGHT.
George:
"BUT DO I CHANGE IT? "
Maynard:
THAT'S THE QUESTION, DO YOU CHANGE IT?
George:
DO YOU?
Maynard:
DO I?
George:
YEAH.
Maynard:
I'VE TRIED. I THINK ON SOME OF THE STUFF I HAVE. I'VE KIND OF COME TO TERMS WITH A LOT OF IT. SO THAT IT IF YOU END UP FIGURING OUT THAT IT'S A PATTERN THAT'S GOING TO BE PRETTY MUCH WITH YOU AND YOU'RE NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO REALLY SHAKE IT VERY WELL, WHAT YOU DO IS YOU-- IF YOU GO INTO A NEXT RELATIONSHIP, YOU MAKE SURE THAT YOU SAY LOUD AND CLEAR FROM THE MOUNTAINS, "THIS IS HOW I AM".
I love this! I mean, yea we all have to try and better ourselves. We all can "work" on ourselves, try to get rid of bad habits, be good to others, learn to compromise at times and just basically be the best person we can be. But....there are some basic things that make us who we are. Everyone has their little idiosyncrasies.
I have so often wanted to shout that: THIS IS HOW I AM!. I'm not a bad person, but yes I have some annoying factors. Heh. I'm a rambler (as I'm showing right now), I wear my heart on my sleeve and I am way, way too much of an open book. People don't usually like that. It seems to me people don't really want to hear what you have to say, they really, really don't like "open books". They'd rather you just keep shit to yourself and shut up.
I'm sick of thinking I need to "pretend" to be something I'm not. And I've never been good at pretending anyway, so that's never really worked. I've turned so many people off by my rambling and being too open about myself. (I don't see it as really rambling, I see it as being passionate. I'm tired of thinking I need to change to suit other people, when this is the way I am.
I'm sorry for this "ramble". But reading this really got to me. Yea.....I really, really want to shout, "Fuck it, this is me! Accept me how I am, for who I am". Except, no one really wants to hear that.
Does anyone else feel this way? Or am I just a retarded rambler?
