Well, I'm glad everyone is relieved and having a good old knee slapping time. I for one am utterly disgusted by what has ensued in the world of Tool/Maynard this past week. I'm sure most/all of you will think I'm overly sensitive/over-reacting but I guess you have to have the same amount/kind of faith as I do to understand where I'm coming from. Basically folks this "joke" was truly fucked and disrespectful. I feel that Maynard has become a complete asshole and has no respect for anyone except those who agree with him. I'm sorry Halo - I know one of the rules of the board is not to disrespect Maynard but he has shown no respect for anyone but himself. He dissed his fans, he dissed Kabir (who has dedicated a whole website to the band for years) and he wasted everyone's time. So much for all that bullshit about showing compassion and respecting the beliefs of others. What was the point of this whole thing. Media attention? I thought Maynard wasn't into all that public eye bullshit. Well I'm done. I've lost total respect for Maynard and I just can't support an artist who blasphemes so blatantly - it's pathetic. Don't bother flaming me because I won't be back. I truly enjoyed speaking with many of you. You all seem like very nice people and I truly wish you all well. Take care.

Wow Perspectives are sooo interesting to me Not flamming anyone here but it's my opinnion that being a TOOL/ APC/ MJK fan and religious is somewhat of an oxy-moron. I dig Jesus and being spiritual but have a huge problem with organized religion i.e. "Deaf and blind and dumb and born to follow". Its a business. Life is a choice and your making a choice to be "disgusted" by a prank to provoke some thought. I for one think this was directed at Brain "Head" Welch who is useing "finding Jesus" as a marketing ploy. Read up on at blabbermouth.net , something isn't clicking with that guy. Any way Take care of yourself , hope the choices you make work for ya

AH HA i told you people i was right ha ha.....i knew it YOu're very young Britany, so maybe you haven;t learned this lesson yet. It's not cool to gloat. Not trying to get down on you, but laughing at the members, saying, "AH HA i told you", isn't very respectful. I don't think any of us truly believed Maynard had "turned to Jesus", but clearly wanted to show our support for him in choices he made for himself.

Pet, I don't know if you'll come back and read this, in fact I really wish you would just come back.
I have read other people stating that they have lost a lot of respect for Maynard. I myself was very upset over the gag, but I was mostly upset that he was fucking with his fans. Fans that only wished him the best. Fans that cared.
Some had a good laugh over this, some thought it wasn't so funny. I think we all got sick of it.
But, Maynard's intentions were not to hurt anyone. It was an April Fool's joke that's it....although yes, maybe in poor taste.
Maynard's belief system, in my opinion, should not affect enjoying his art. You don't have to like the man, to like his music.
Trust me, I have worked with a lot of rock stars. Some you would never want to know. Some would completely try my patience with their egos and attitudes. But that never stopped me from enjoying the music. If we did that, we'd only be hurting ourselves. We would only be depriving ourselves of the music.
I understand why you are hurt right now, pet. But his intentions weren't to be mean. It was a joke. I know you don't see it this way, I didn't care for it myself. But I do know I over reacted. Maybe, hopefully you are just hurt right now and will realize that it's the music that matters, not Maynard's personal beliefs or who he is.

Wow Perspectives are sooo interesting to me Definitely. Perspectives and interpretations. More on that coming soon. Not flamming anyone here but it's my opinnion that being a TOOL/ APC/ MJK fan and religious is somewhat of an oxy-moron. Not really. I was surprised myself to find that Tool actually does have many christian fans. I've ran in to quite a few of them at Tool Army. I'm beginning to think that it is all in the interpretation. And we are going to have to discuss this further. I think that people that believed that this gag could possibly be real, were for two reasons. One, anyone can have a change of heart. Anything is possible. Two, we know that Maynard is against organized religion, but you said yourself, you "dig" Jesus. Jesus is not an organized religion. He may have been what spawned organized religion, but that's another subject. So actually "finding Jesus" is not joining an organized religion.

He may have been what spawned organized religion, but that's another subject. So actually "finding Jesus" is not joining an organized religion. I do agree that it went on too long , and I also agree that anything is possible. Sure , MJK could leave music and be a monk up in the hills somewhere and thats fine , but I would still be dissappointed because , like you said , it's about the music. Pet , who again I'm not bashing - I personally think she's cool - seems like she is letting her belief system dictate the deceisions that she makes. She was o.k. with the news as long as he was "finding Jesus". Now she wants nothing to do with the man or , rather , his art. That seems very narrow minded to me. Being a fan of anyone/anything a person usually does a little investigating because it/they peaks thier interest. The more you delve into Tool/APC you start figureing out some things that would turn off an every day bible thumping christion. This is just my view , I'm not saying it's the way or that I'm right. I do recognize that I do have alot to learn. I think that we (as people) can relate/identify with the music/lyrics and thats how we become so conected to it. It becomes ours. Tool/APC isn't religous based , as a matter of fact , it's quite the opposite. Thats why I'm surprised that a devout christion could be a fan of Tool/ APC / MJK. I was raised a strict baptist in Ohio and have an understanding about some christion views. I've choosen a different path for myself because I didn't agree with the controlling/manipulating aspect of the church that I witnessed. If it works for you , thats cool , just as long as its what you want to do. To quote maynard loosely : " Jesus , Buddha , and Krishna all had great ideas. An agent saw a way to make money off of their ideas. Never trust an agent" Again , perspectives are very interesting to me And I do wish Pet well

Bastard, I found it hard to believe there was christian fans of Maynards also. But there is. The only thing I can think of is that they are interpreting the music in their own way. Which actually is what we are all supposed to do, right?
This has peaked my interest greatly. Who are we to say that you cannot intrepret Tool's music anyway but "this" way?
And touching on the subject of the music versus the man again......to me, it is two entirely separate things. I don't do drugs, but that doesn't mean I'm not going to listen to someone's music who does. If some band member believes in god and I don't....that's not going to stop me from listening to their music if I like the music.
We will expand on this subject further and the subject of artists expressing their opinions. I will be putting up a thread soon.

Well Im glad its over. It was funny after he expained it. The thing im most happy about is that they are still going to release the album. ;D I wounder if he knows about all the fans that were pissed. If he does, I wounder if he feels bad. Doesnt really matter I guess, but its over thank god.

And I've come to the conclusion, although it will be an unpopular one with a lot of people, that he shouldn't. And that's all I'm going to say on this subject for right now. (I have my reasons that I may expound on later)
