I love APC and I think TOOL are great. I can't say either are better than either. They're just different. Like two neighbouring worlds, if that makes sense.   Very well said |

this kind of questions are always raised when in comparing two bands, two types of music, hell, even two types of art.
i think my input in this is probably another question: what really means to be "better" in the arts? that a person likes more a band than another? okay, which person? me? you? i really don't think that there is an appropiate judge for this: it has to be human, and human is to be biased... my point is that this type of questions, while there are valid (any question is), are probably best left for critics that don't know what to ask.
i dunno who actually said this, but: "to do art is the closest there is to being like God. the creation is like your humanity that ressembles you in every way."
not to put off anyone (i frankly don't remember who started this thread) and i really don't have nothing against this person, but i find it insulting to compare two bodies of work so well crafted like these two bands are. especially to MJK. i know is human to judge and compare, but i think the last thing he wanted when he embarked on APC is that his fans would be deciding which project's better.

I agree entirely with everything you said Caleb.
I'm not sure what the poster's intentions were, but I think it was more for the purpose of discussing the differences between the bands and what anyone's preferences, if any, were.
No, I don't believe you can ever compare two bodies of work. It is insulting but also art is very subjective and each individual will intrepret art in their own ways.
I have said several times, in this thread, you cannot compare the two bands. They are separate entities, separate bands, separate works of art.
But definitely people can have a preference when it comes to any art.

Of course is open to interpretation!
Any human may absorve any part of a song as (s)he pleases, and thus judge it, comment on it, and, like this thread's subject is, compare it to other work. My point of view towards all of this is basically "i don't agree to what you have to say, but i'll fight to the death for your right to say it".
I'm figuring this is why we are all here for, to judge, to debate, to talk. Ja, and I've just realized this is my fourth post in my first hour and a half of being a member here... I like it =).
P.S. And if we're going to the lenghts of streisand jokes, i'll push it a little further....................... rats! can't think of anything beyond that... =)
