I understand that there is different FACES to MJK on both of these bands, but for me (and this goes well with the statement that bastard posted) I just hear the same person... going through various filters, different shades, etc.
About me assuming the empathy of MJK, well yeah, sorry, it's an assumption, but... i don't know... writing a song about something that he has never gone through and doing the lyrics from others' experiences does sound like an empathetic person to me. Besides, even if he wasn't in a band, I don't think I would never really know a person being that a friend, wife, or a family member; I may know them well, but not completely. So, does that have to stop me from assuming stuff about a person from the way that he writes, sings or eats?
Also, I don't think that this is barging in on his private life... I mean, these are his words that are open to interpretation for the world: being that their meaning or the person that wrote them. I'm sorry if I think of both of them when I hear any of their songs.
Finally, I have never gone to an APC or Tool concert, but I wouldn't put that as a way of comparing them... even though, yes, you've also mentioned the mood, tone, music for this purpose (granted). I don't know, I hear an APC song then a Tool song and I hear him, very different styles of music and all, but, y'know, it's him right there... ja, can't explain myself, sorry... I guess I'll give you the victory on this one =).
Sorry if this sounded like a rant... I'm very agressive when I write, but no offense to anyone.

So, does that have to stop me from assuming stuff about a person from the way that he writes, sings or eats? Okay, I didn't mean to piss anyone off here. It is perfectly fine for anyone to assume anything. What I have a problem with (and I'm sorry, it's a pet peeve of mine, no offense to you) is when people state it as if it were fact. Like I said in my post, I have no problem with people saying something about someone they don't know but stating it as an opinion[/u][/b], such as, "I think he is probably an empathetic person", instead of making a statement worded as fact, such as, "He is an empathetic person". Also, I don't think that this is barging in on his private life... I mean, these are his words that are open to interpretation for the world: being that their meaning or the person that wrote them. I'm sorry if I think of both of them when I hear any of their songs. I didn't say anything about you barging in on his private life. I simply don't think we should state things as fact, when you don't know it as fact. Yes, of course his words are open to interpretation and I love hearing everyone's interpretations. And you may interpret or assume through his words what kind of person he is. I have no problem whatsoever with that. As long as it is stated as an interpretation or opinion. ja, can't explain myself, sorry... I guess I'll give you the victory on this one =). There is NO winners, losers, victories or defeats in a discussion over interpretations. All we are doing is stating opinions. You have yours, I have mine....everybody has a different one. And I love that. I certainly hope that you understand I believe all opinions are valid. I believe your opinion was valid and very welcome here. If we disagree it does not mean I don't believe your opinion, it simply means I have a different one. You gave your opinion and I countered it with mine. Very simple. No victories....just a discussion of opinions. Are we cool, Caleb? I absolutely meant no offense to you. Just stating my preference for posting opinions as opinions, when the facts are not known.

Frankly, when I read my post again, after reading your reply, it (my post) did sound a little off (little angry)... I'm sorry for that.

I look at it like this: Tool and APC are direct entities of MJK, direct extensions. And like any human being, a man/woman has their strengths and weaknesses, so if you look at it from that perspective, one band could be, not necessarily better, but stonger for MJK. As in where one lacks, the other picks up for and vice versa. Like MJK in just one band has it's flaws, MJK with two bands is perfect. If that makes any sense what-so-ever. Essentially, MJK is better not with one particular band, but is better all around because he has the backbone and sturcture of two projects. Neither band by themselves is better for him, but together they make him better. (Ok, I think I confused myself now)
Ok enough rambling, I'm sure this sounds dumb.........

I think I understand what you are saying VOG. And it does make sense. I don't know if I would have used the word "flaws", but I see it as the things that MJK can't do in one band, he can do in the other. Lyrics that wouldn't necessarily work with Tool's music, do work with APC and vice versa. As it has been stated before, he can show more of his feminine side through his lyrics and melodies with APC, where Tool shows his more masculine side. I think it probably is very good for him to have the two outlets for his creativity. And it certainly is great for us fans! (I can't believe we are still discussing this.)

About APC being better than TooL. I have to agree with Halo. For me, it depends on the mood that I'm in. BUT........my "every mood" opinion is neither is better than the other. TooL and APC are both MASTERFUL!!! To me, both bands display these amazing messages, but the most important thing to me is how the music makes me feel. I think pretty much everyone can agree with me when I say that the feelings APC and TooL give everyone are INDESCRIBABLE!!!

Tool and APC are two completely different entities...The way in which the music grooves in Tool is much more of a rhythmic, mathematical approach, whereas APC is more open...Maynards response (singing style) for Tool is very matter-of-fact- his phrasing is dead-on and much more emphatic on rhythm than melody, with APC he explores a different harmonic.

Maybe weaknesses? I'm not sure of the right word to use instead so bear with me! haha I understand what you are saying VOG. What MJK can't do in one band, he can do with the other. I still wouldn't call it flaws or weaknesses, and I don't even think there is a word to describe it correctly. To me, it seems to be kind of like he can't express everything with just one band. He needs two bands to let out all of what is inside him. It seems as though one band just isn't the proper outlet for some of his expression, his art, but the other band serves as a better outlet for his needs. Some of his art is better communicated through Tool and other parts of him and his art are better communicated through APC. And of course, that's just my opinion. He could just get fucking bored and needs two bands to keep him busy. (I'm kidding)
